Errors hinder Lady Cougars in loss to Plainview

PLAINVIEW – The Ada Lady Cougars shot themselves in the foot with eight errors in dropping a 13-8 decision at Plainview on Monday.

The Lady Indians improved to 11-16 on the year, while Ada slumped to 0-15.

Plainview held a 9-7 edge in total hits.

Colbi Hargus and Alyssa Colungo each went 2-for-4 from the plate for Ada in a losing cause, as Hargus had one RBI and scored once. Teammate Zoie Graham finished 1-for-2 with one RBI, one run scored and a walk. Dixie Redman was 1-for-2, scored three times and drew a walk, and Madison Wilson had the other hit in going 1-for-3.

Colungo took the pitching loss as she gave up nine hits, walked five and struck out three. Eight of the 13 Plainview runs were earned.

The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first off Graham’s run-scoring single and an error which allowed Brenley Linthicum to cross the plate.

Trailing 8-2 in the third inning, Ada cut the deficit to four when Natalie Turner drew a bases-loaded walk and Linthicum stole home.

Down 9-4, Ada got two scores when Hargus scored off a passed ball and Graham raced home on a wild pitch.

After Plainview scored four times in the bottom of the fifth to make it 13-6, the Lady Cougars got two more scores off a Hargus RBI single and a passed ball which led Redman to scoring.

Ada returns to the Cougar Softball Complex at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, when Tishomingo visits.
