Six local basketball players were crown Elks Hoop Shoot winners Saturday at the Ada Junior High west gymnasium.
Each contestant entered in the contest attempted 25 free throws with the top shooters advancing to the Southeast District Hoop Shoot finals scheduled for Jan. 15 in Ada.
In the 8-9 age group girls contest, Carly Horton of Latta sank 15-of-25 shots for first place while Lindsey Brandt of Homer was second with 12. In the boys contest, Patrick Tims of Stonewall was the winner with 18 baskets made followed by runner-up Jacob Shannon of Washington Grade Center with 17.
In the 10-11 girls contest, Madison Roe of Roff was champion with 10 makes. Dawsyn Lyons of Homer edged Colby Sawyer of McLish for second place after a shoot-off. In the 10-11 boys contest, Austin Lambert of Coalgate held off Logan Matthews of Homer by a score of 19 makes to 17.
Taylor House of Roff won the 12-13 girls contest by making 13-of-25 shots while Devanee Simmons of Ada Junior HIgh was second with 12. The final boys champion was a red-hot Carter Kessinger of Latta who drilled 23-of-25 free throws. Chase Findley of Stonewall knocked off Ben Pruitt of Willard in a shoot-off for second place.
City to offer adult basketball league
ADA — The City of Ada Recreation Department is forming a 3-on-3 basketball league for adults this winter.
Registration deadline is Wednesday, December 29. League games will be played on Mondays, and the season begins Jan. 10. Each team’s roster must be limited to five players. Entry fee is $50 per team.

Enroll now for 3-on-3 basketball league
ADA —The Boys and Girls Club of Ada is offering a new 3-on-3 basketball league for players in grades 9-12.
This league is only open to boys and girls who are not playing on a ninth grade, junior varsity or varsity school team.
Registration begins now and ends Friday, Jan. 7. Teens are encouraged to form their own teams.
Rosters are limited to five team members and teams do not need a coach.
The cost for the league is $20 per player, which will cover the cost of membership and insurance.
League play will begin Monday, Jan. 10 at the Chickasaw 4 way stop gymnasium at 6 p.m. and end on Feb. 28.
Teams may sign-up at the Boys and Girls Club of Ada, 915 So. Hickory from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or call (580)332-3717.
