East Central University’s volleyball team closed out the home portion of its 2010 schedule Saturday with a 3-0 loss to visiting Texas Woman’s University Lone Star Conference play at the Kerr Center.
The Pioneers claimed all three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 25-18 in improving to 9-17 on the season and 6-6. The Lady Tigers fell to 4-25 and 2-10.
The loss overshadowed a 14-kill effort from Danielle Essix, who hit at a .400 percentage. Teammate Tatiana Booth also hit at .400 and recorded seven kills. Noelle Cope was next with six kills.
Setter Shayla May finished with 19 assists and Taylor Brown ended up with 13.
Defensively, Megan Kimak posted 21 digs and Yakira Essix tacked on 12.
Chloe Tate topped TWU with 11 kills and Katelyn Osborne finished with 10. Sydney Veitenheimer set up the Pioneer offense with 38 assists.
Five players had double-digit digs for TWU, led by Kendra Coulson’s 20 and Osborne’s 15.
ECU closes out the 2010 season with road conference matches at Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and at Central Oklahoma on Saturday at 2 p.m.
