CONWAY, Ark. — The East Central University men’s and women’s track & field teams finished the 2018 University of Central Arkansas Open with seven men’s top-10 finishes and nine women’s top-10 finishes in the final meet before the Great American Conference Championships.
Senior Michaela Lombardi made an impact for the team by earning silver in both the 1,500 meter run and 5,000 meter run. In the 1,500 she finished in a time of 4:58.97, while the 5,000 she earned a time of 18:06.74.
Senior Bre’Anna Davis added two top-10 finishes in field events. Davis finished third in the shot put, with a throw of 10.78m (35’4.5”) and then finished sixth in the discus, with a throw of 38.08m (124’11”).
The Tigers also saw top-10 finishes on the women’s side from freshman Yvette Felix (5th/5,000 meters), freshman Katie Cowger (6th/800 meters), freshman Rain Rehbien (9th/Javelin), freshman Kyleigh Norris (10th/1,500 meters) and sophomore Kirsten Yancy (10th/400 meters).
On the men’s side, junior Dilland Gardner was the top producer, earning gold in both the shot put and discus. In the shout put he recorded a throw of 13.93m (45’8.5”) and in the discus he earned a mark of 45.99m (150’11”).
Junior Larry Filer also earned a first place finish for the Tigers in the 5,000 meters in a time of 15:28.74.
ECU also saw top-10 finishes from senior Kevin Matthews (4th/1,500 meters), senior Richard Mora (6th/5,000 meters), freshman Zachary Alexander (7th/400 meter hurdles) and senior Henry Chisum (8th/Javelin).
Both teams will now prepare for the 2018 GAC Championships that begin Thursday and run through Saturday hosted by Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Arkansas.
