TAHLEQUAH — The East Central University women's tennis team got off to a 2-0 start Friday by claiming dual victories over Missouri Western (7-0) and Missouri Southern (6-3) in the Northeastern State University Classic.

Against Missouri Western, the Lady Tigers swept four of the six singles matches and were a perfect 3-0 in doubles play. The other two singles matches at No. 4 and No. 5 were not completed.

ECU's Dasha Segenchuk, ranked 27th in NCAA Division II, earned a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Mary Pankiewicz at No. 1 singles, while teammate Karlien Lotter dominated Tammy Liebersbach, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.

At No. 3 singles, the Lady Tigers' Ana Fernandez was an easy 6-0, 6-0 victor over Audra Scopen, while at No. 6 singles, ECU's Amanda Rhynes downed Ashley Harrell, 6-4, 6-2.

In doubles play, Segenchuk and Lotter teamed up for an 8-0 triumph over Pankiewicz and Scopen at No. 1. ECU's Fernandez and Katrina Cousins combined for an 8-2 victory over Liebersbach and Laura Rutten at No. 2 doubles and Jessica Lobnitz and Rhynes were 8-2 victors over Michelle Polk and Ashley Harrell at No. 3.

Against Missouri Southern, the Lady Tigers won four of the six singles matches and claimed two of the three doubles matchups.

At No. 1 singles, Segenchuk rolled to a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Michelle Hall, while Lotter earned a 6-2, 6-4 win over Barb Gombosi at No. 2 singles.

Fernandez was a 6-3, 6-3 victor over Kristen Meschede at No. 3 singles and Lobnitz was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Ashton Lawrence at No. 5 singles.

Cousins was a 6-2, 6-1 loser to Kim McMunn at No. 4 singles and Rhynes dropped a 6-0, 6-1 decision to Kasey Adams at No. 6.

In doubles competition, Segenchuk and Lotter were 8-6 winners over Gombosi and Hall at No. 1. Fernandez and Cousins earned an 8-5 triumph over McMunn and Meschede at No. 2.

ECU's only doubles loss was suffered by Lobnitz and Rhynes, who dropped an 8-3 decision to Lawrence and Adams at No. 3.

The Lady Tigers played in two more duals on Saturday.
