ADA — The East Central University women’s tennis team, playing with just four players, nearly pulled off an upset before dropping a 5-4 decision to 27th-ranked Midwestern State Tuesday.

ECU’s Amanda Rhynes missed Tuesday’s dual due to illness while Katrina Cousins is sidelined for the season with a torn ACL. It was the final home dual for the ECU women.

The Lady Tigers captured singles victories at No. 1 and No. 3.

At No. 1, 29th-ranked Dasha Segenchuk, of the Lady Tigers, earned a 7-6, 6-1 triumph over Faye D’Hamecourt while at No. 3, ECU’s Ana Fernandez claimed a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Cilia Muller.

MSU’s Brenna Jackson earned a hard-fought 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over ECU’s Karlien Lotter at No. 2 singles, while MSU’s Camilia Miranda was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Jessica Lobnitz.

ECU did manage to capture two doubles victories as Fernandez and Lotter claimed a stunning 8-6 decision over the 11th-ranked team of Michelle Beukes and Jackson, while the Lady Tigers’ Lobnitz and Segenchuk earned an 8-4 victory over Michelle Watson and Muller.
