The East Central University men’s tennis team rolled to an 8-1 victory over visiting St. Mary’s (Texas) Sunday during a non-conference tennis dual at the Mayhue Courts.

The Tigers won five of the six singles and swept all three doubles matches played under sunny but windy conditions.

ECU took four of its five singles wins in straight sets as the Tigers’ Andres Nunez, ranked 35th in the nation, was extended to three sets before prevailing 6-7 (6), 6-1, 10-3 at No. 1 singles.

Stefan Stein, ECU’s No. 2 singles entrant, was an easy 6-0, 6-1 winner. The Tigers’ Carlos Muro claimed a 7-5, 6-3 decision at No. 3 singles and ECU’s Julian Caminos was a 6-0, 6-1 victor at No. 4 singles. At No. 6 singles, Ignacio Lucero was a 6-0, 6-0 winner.

Nunez and Stein teamed up for a victory at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 doubles combo of Chad Morgan and Andrew Cabato were also victorious as were Muro and Caminos at No. 3.

No. 4 – Julian Caminos (ECU) def. Jake Williams, 6-0, 6-1.

No. 5 – Carlos Olea (St. Mary’s) def. Chad Morgan, 7-5, 7-5.

No. 6 – Ignacio Lucero (ECU) def. Nicolas Moreno, 6-0, 6-0.

 

DOUBLES

No. 1 – Nunez-Stein (ECU) def. Williams-Klipa, 8-2.

No. 2 – Morgan-Andrew Cacato (ECU) def. Moreno-Moreno, 8-1.

No. 3 – Muro-Caminos (ECU) def. Rutten-Olea, 8-4.
