DALLAS — The East Central University men’s tennis team capped off a perfect 4-0 weekend last Saturday with a 5-4 dual victory over NCAA Division I Nicholls State (La.).

That win came after the Tigers dominated Western New Mexico earlier in the day, 8-1. ECU also claimed a 3-0 decision over Dallas Baptist in all doubles matches on Friday after knocking off University of Texas-Dallas 6-0 in all singles matches.

Against Nicholls State, Quynh Tran (No. 2 singles), Victor Rios (No. 4) and Matt Folsom (No. 6) claimed singles victories while Chris Kriel and Rios teamed up for a No. 2 doubles win and Folsom and Felipe Lopez were victorious at No. 3 doubles. Three of the singles matches went to three sets as Tran and Rios were extended before claiming their victories. Kriel went to three sets at No. 3 singles before losing.

In the win over Western New Mexico, ECU’s only loss came at No. 2 singles as Josue Paz (No. 1), Rios (No. 3), Kriel (No. 4), Lopez (No. 5) and Folsom (No. 6) all claimed victories in singles play. Tran-Paz, Kriel-Rios and Folsom-Lopez were the winning doubles teams for the Tigers.

On Friday, the Tran-Paz, Kriel-Rios and Folsom-Lopez teams were victorious in doubles play to produce the final 3-0 score.

Against Texas-Dallas, Tran (No. 1), Rios (No. 2), Kriel (No. 3), Lopez (No. 4), Folsom (No. 5) and John Sedlak (No. 6) all rolled to two-set victories.
