East Central University’s Dakota Robbins was tied for 13th place and Travis Keeley was deadlocked at 17th after one round Monday of the Lone Star Conference Golf Championships at the par-72 Randolph Oaks Golf Course.

Robbins, on the strength of three birdies, fired a 3-over-par 75 while Keeley, who posted pars on 11 holes, was 4-over with a 76 in the three-day, three-round event.

The Tigers, with a 21-over team score of 309, sits in ninth place after the opening round.

Central Oklahoma holds the team lead with a 4-under team score of 284, followed by Abilene Christian (296), Northeastern State (301), West Texas A&M (301), Texas A&M-Commerce (302), Cameron (303), Southwestern Oklahoma State (308), Midwestern State (308), ECU, Incarnate Word (310) and Southeastern Oklahoma State (324).

Also for the Tigers, Brandon Herbison and Brandon Nicholson were tied for 36th place as each shot a 7-over 79 and Bryeson Lance was tied for 50th after shooting an 11-over 83. Nicholson also had pars on 11 holes and Herbison registered pars on 10.

UCO’s Colby Shrum fired a 5-under 67 and held a one-stroke lead over second-place Casey Nelson of Northeastern State (68). Four others were under par including: West Texas AM’s Ben Hargis with a 69, UCO’s Andrew Green with a 70, ACU’s Alex Carpenter with a 71 and UCO’s Josh Creel with a 71.

There are 11 teams and 55 golfers participating in the event.

The second round is scheduled for Tuesday while the third and final round is set for Wednesday.

Lady Tigers eighth

 SAN ANTONIO, Texas — East Central University’s Emily Wharton fired a 5-over-par 76 and was tied for 18th place Monday after one round of the Lone Star Conference Women’s Golf Championships at the par-71 Republic Golf Club.

ECU is in eighth place after registering a team score of 313, which is 29-over for the tournament.

Tarleton State leads the event with a team score of 287, which is 3-over. Incarnate Word is second at 295 (11-over), followed by Midwestern State (303), Northeastern State (305), Texas A&M-Commerce (305), Central Oklahoma (307), West Texas A&M (311), ECU, Angelo State (316), Cameron (320), Southwestern Oklahoma State (331) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (355).

Individually, Tarleton State’s Carla Cooper fired a 3-under 68. Followed by Incarnate Word’s Jessica Cornish (69), Texas A&M-Commerce’s Charity McMahan (70) and Midwestern State’s Kendra Whittley (70).

The Lady Tigers’ Whitney McDaniel was tied for 25th place with a 7-over 78. Teammate Ilissa Jaggers was tied for 29th with a 79. Megan Dutton was tied for 32nd place with an 80 and Carol Blanton was tied for 39th with an 81.

Jaggers reached par on a team-best 12 holes while Wharton made par on 11 holes.

There are 12 teams and 60 golfers participating in the event.

The second round is scheduled for Tuesday while the third and final round is set for Wednesday.

 

McDaniel honored

 SAN ANTONIO, Texas — East Central University senior golfer Whitney McDaniel was named an honorable mention All-Lone Star Conference award winner, it was announced Monday night at a banquet in conjunction with the LSC Championships.

McDaniel, a senior from Sulphur Springs, Texas, was tied for 25th place Monday after the first round of the LSC Tournament. She was the first signee when the ECU women’s golf program was launched four years ago.
