The East Central University women’s golf team settled for 19th place Tuesday as the two-day, two-round Doc Housewright Invitational wrapped up at the par-72 Harbor Lakes Golf Club.
ECU’s best finish came from Carol Blanton, who tied for 45th place after rounds of 81 and 83. Teammate Ilissa Jaggers posted rounds of 86 and 82 and tied for 65th place and Emily Wharton tied for 83rd with an 88 and 85.
Also for the Lady Tigers, Whitney McDaniel rebounded from an opening-round 97 on Monday to register a 79 and finish in 91st place. Molly Saunders was 98th with a 93-90. ECU’s Amanda Buell, playing unattached, finished 107th with a 101-96.
Host Tarleton State swept the top three individual spots and secured the team title with a score of 592. Carla Cooper captured medalist honors with a 74-68 to top teammate Katy Ward (77-70) by five strokes. Jacqueline Lau, also of Tarleton, shot a 78-70 for third place.
Grand Canyon, which had its top two individuals finish fourth and fifth, took second in the team standings with a 619, followed by St. Edward’s (619), California, Pa. (626), Northeastern State (626), Academy of Art (638), Central Oklahoma (641), Cal State-Monterey Bay (642), Western Washington (644) and Nebraska-Omaha (645).
Newman finished 11th at 654, followed by Angelo State (663), Midwestern State (667), St. Martin’s (670), Chico State (671), Cameron (671), West Texas A&M (673), Hawaii-Hilo (675), East Central (677), Southwestern Oklahoma State (702) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (752).
