The East Central University baseball team will play five games over the next week, starting with a single game against Oklahoma Baptist, Tuesday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. at Tiger Field. The Tigers will then play a four-game series at Abilene Christian, Feb. 8-10 in Abilene, Texas.

Scouting Oklahoma Baptist
The Bison are 0-1 on the season after falling on the road at Southwestern Oklahoma State (2-7) Feb. 2.
OBU finished the 2012 season with a 47-14 overall record, but lost five all-conference players.
In their first game of the season, the Bison saw four hits from four different players. Jonathan Christensen took the loss after 2.2 innings of work. He allowed three hits, five runs and five walks.
Against The Bison
Last year, the Tigers and the Bison played each other once on their home fields, with each team stealing a win on the road.
Junior Ethan Gold hit .500 against OBU, with two hits that included a double and two RBIs. Senior Mac Grace added two hits and a .400 batting average. Robert Buitrago is the top returning pitcher, with an ERA of 5.79 in 4.2 innings of work and five strikeouts.
Greg Nelson is the top returner at the plate for the Bison, with a .545 batting average on six hits (five doubles) and three RBIs. Jesus Carlos is the only returning pitcher that the Tigers faced, with just 1.2 innings that produced three walks and five strikeouts.
Scouting Abilene Christian
The Wildcats are 2-1 so far on the season and will face Texas A&M Kingsville, Monday, Feb. 4 in the final game of The Astros in Action DII Invitational in Houston, Texas.
After the first three games, Seth Spivey leads the team, with a .556 batting average, with five hits and two RBIs. Kyle Giusti has five hits, including two doubles, and a team-best seven RBIs.
Aaron Lambrix and Jordon Herrera have both picked up wins on the mound. Lambrix has a 0.00 ERA in 4.1 innings of work and five strikeouts. Herrera has a 3.86 ERA after a complete game that saw seven hits, eight strikeouts and two walks.
Against The Wildcats
The teams met in Abilene, Texas a year ago, with both earning two wins. Grace leads the returners for ECU, with a .500 average. Paul Guardado is next with a .400 average, six hits, three runs and an RBI. Senior Will Grimes picked up a win on the mound in four innings of work.
Benny Banging Away
Senior Benny Woodard was the first Tiger to earn a hit in the opening weekend of action, with a double. The Kennedale, Texas, native garnered a home run, two doubles, five hits, four RBIs and a .455 batting average in the first four games.
GAC Preseason Poll
The Tigers were picked to finish 10th in the 2013 Great American Conference Baseball Preseason Poll, as voted on by the league’s head coaches.
Southern Arkansas was picked to finish first, with 63 points and seven first-place votes. Southeastern earned the second spot, with 56 points and one first-place votes. Arkansas Tech was the only other school to receive a first-place vote and finished third (48 points). Ouachita Baptist (44 points), Southwestern (35 points), Harding (29 points), Henderson State (22 points) and Arkansas-Monticello (17 points) round out the field.
The Tigers will return home for the opening weekend of Great American Conference action, Feb. 15-16 when Ouachita Baptist comes to Ada for three games. The first is scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 15, with a double-header slated for Saturday, Feb. 16 starting at 1 p.m.
