ARCADIA — Fifteen members of the Pontotoc County 4-H skeet shooting club participated in the spring state skeet competition at Arcadia April 8. All 15 came home with awards in the individual or team events.

 Kenzie Akers of Vanoss took fourth place in the 10-11 age group with a 24- of-50 in her very first competition.

 Jesse Mowdy of Vanoss won fourth place in a shoot-off in the 12-13 age division with a 37-of-50 score. Latta’s Logan Scott and Shanan Foster of Vanoss tied atop this same division with 42-of-50. Foster won the shoot-off to take first place.

 Haley Foster was top female skeet shooter for the second straight state competition in a row. She connected on 44-of-50.

 In the team competitions, Pontotoc County team members were also impressive. The senior team took third place with a combined score of 190- of-250. Members — all from Vanoss — included Haley Foster, Shanan Foster, Mason Laxton, Logan Martin and Jesse Mowdy.

 The junior No. 2 team, made up of mostly first-time competitors, took home the junior second-place trophy with a score of 103-of-250. Members of the team were Latta’s Boady Snider, and Kenzie Akers, Georgie McCurdy, Caleb Stone and Danaka Mowdy, all from Vanoss.

 For the fourth state shoot in a row, the Pontotoc County junior No. 1 team won the junior state championship. Members of this team were Logan Scott of Latta, Mitchell Potts and Chase Lancaster, Roff, and Cason Laxton and Wesley Frederick, Vanoss. They broke 167-of-250 targets to win the team trophy.

 The Pontotoc County skeet teams are coached by Vanoss teacher Ron Akers and assistant coach Dana Laxton.
