NOTEWORTHY: The Ada Lady Cougars shot a team-best 430 and finished with a solid sixth-place finish at the Perkins Tournament on Friday despite battling heavy winds and cool temperatures. The tournament was played “Team Format” which allowed all players to play together as a team. Alanah Canfield also turned in her best round of the year with a score of 104. Stillwater won the event with a 387 while Cushing was next at 418. Ada was just five strokes behind fourth-place Shawnee (425). McCandra Lewis of Guthrie won the medalist crown with a 75.

COACHES QUOTE: “I have been coaching golf for many years and the conditions on Friday were certainly one of the worst I have ever seen at a tournament.  The cold and 40-plus m.p.h. winds and later rain really challenged the teams participating. Some teams didn’t even finish and went home. I was very proud of the girls for fighting through the elements.”

“The team format made things a little easier for us and all the teams participating.  By playing together, it certainly eliminated the pressure of playing with other team members. This contributed to our lower individual scores. This format also contributed to our low team score by calculating the best four player’s scores by hole, rather than by round. But even had the scores been totaled by round, we still would have shot our best total of the year with a 438. Unfortunately this is the only tournament conducted this way and on Monday in Oklahoma City we will return to the normal format,” — Ada head coach Ron Anderson.
