NOTEWORTHY: The Class 4A sixth-ranked Lady Pirates limited host and Class 3A 17th-ranked Atoka to 6 percent shooting and only nine points in closing out the regular season. Raetchel Gray tossed in 11 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Ashton Johnson collected 10 points and pulled down six boards. Byng jumped out to a 10-2 lead after one quarter and had a 19-4 cushion at halftime. It was 30-7 through three quarters.

NOTEWORTHY: Kate McCoy scored 12 points, including one 3-pointer, while Brittany Sanders and Kayley Sanders tallied 11 points apiece as the Lady Tigers earned a Class B district championship. The Sanders tandem also nailed one trey apiece. After a 6-6 deadlock through one quarter, Tupelo outscored the hosts 13-8 in the second on the way to a 19-14 halftime advantage. The Lady Tigers were up 28-21 after three quarters and then outscored Springer 17-10 in the fourth. Audre White paced Springer with 17 points.

COACH’S QUOTE: “We started slow on offense, but in the second quarter we started moving the ball and taking better shots. It was nice to get a win in the district finals, heading into regionals,” — Tupelo head coach Missy Rogers.

NOTEWORTHY: Three Bulldogs had over 20 points and Stratford was a perfect 22-of-22 from the free-throw line in capturing a Big 8 Conference championship over Community Christian in the regular-season finale. Randy Brown poured in 26 points, Chris Kozak added 23 and Trey Helm had 21 for the Bulldogs, who won their eighth straight and have gone 13-1 since a 4-4 start to the season. Brown drilled two 3-pointers and was 16-of-16 from the charity stripe. Kozak sank five treys, and Helm notched one. Stratford led 14-11 after the first quarter and went on to a 38-31 halftime lead. The Bulldogs had a 56-42 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

NOTEWORTHY: The Tigers committed 27 turnovers and were held to 27 percent shooting in falling to host Springer in a Class B district final. Chisum Henry sank two 3-pointers and finished with 12 points to lead Tupelo. Springer jumped out to a 15-5 lead and was up by a 33-13 margin at halftime.

Record: Tupelo is 8-16
