ECU women's tennis team drops 5-4 decision

to Midwestern State

 ADA – The East Central University women’s tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Midwestern State in Lone Star Conference play on Wednesday at the Ada Tennis Center.

ECU’s Marta Valles (No. 2 singles) and Kristen Clubb (No. 6) won their singles matches in straight sets while teammate Nilsa Ramirez won by injury default at No. 4 singles after winning the first set by a 6-4 count.

The Lady Tigers’ lone doubles win came at No. 1 as Julia Arguello and Valles combined for an 8-2 victory.

ECU plays at Dallas Baptist today.

Midwestern State tops East Central

 men's tennis squad, 6-3

 ADA — The East Central University men’s tennis suffered a 6-3 loss to Midwestern State Wednesday in Lone Star Conference action at the Ada Tennis Center.

ECU’s lone doubles victory came at No. 1 as Andres Nunez and Dai Edwardes-Evans combined for an 8-5 decision.

Nunez also won his singles match at No. 1 by a 6-2, 6-4 count while the Tigers’ other win came at No. 6 as Mitch Sholty posted a 6-2, 7-5 decision.

ECU plays at Dallas Baptist today and then faces St. Mary’s (Texas) on Friday in Lawton.

East Central men’s tennis team

routs Southeastern 8-1

 ADA — The East Central University men’s tennis squad swept all three doubles matches to set the tone and won five of six singles in routing Southeastern Oklahoma State 8-1 Tuesday at the Ada Tennis Center.

Andres Nunez and Dai Edwardes-Evans won their No. 1 doubles match 8-4 while Stefan Stein and Samuel Moore combined for an 8-1 decision at No. 2. Mitch Sholty and Carlos Muro were also 8-2 winners at No. 3 doubles.

Nunez (No. 1 singles), Stein (No. 2), Moore (No. 3), Muro (No. 5) and Sholty (No. 6) won their singles matches in straight sets.

The only Tiger loss came at No. 4 singles as play was extended before Travis Truax topped Edwardes-Evans, 4-6, 6-2, 10-6.

 ADA — The East Central University women’s tennis team dropped a 5-4 Lone Star Conference dual decision to Southeastern Oklahoma State Tuesday in Ada.

ECU’s No. 1 and No. 2 singles entrants Julia Arguello and Marta Valles won their matches in easy fashion while the Lady Tigers scored victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.

Arguello earned a 6-0, 6-0 decision while Valles won her match by injury default after holding a 6-3, 3-0 advantage.

In doubles play, Arguello and Valles teamed up for an 8-0 decision at No. 1, while Rhiannon Mecanovic and Nilsa Ramirez combined for an 8-4 win at No. 2.
