BYNG – Levi Prater fired a five-inning, two-hitter and Cody Mills hit a two-run homer as the Class A second-ranked Byng Pirates cruised to an 11-0 rout of the Latta Panthers on Thursday in a regional championship game.
BYNG – The eighth-ranked Latta Panthers jumped out to a big lead, then had to hang on in the end of a wild 17-10 win over Roff Thursday at the Class A Regional Tournament at Stokes Field.
STONEWALL – The fifth-ranked Stonewall Lady Longhorns moved one win away from a Class A state tournament berth on Thursday, as they swept their first two games in regional play with a 7-2 win over Rock Creek and a 7-1 decision over Dewar.
TUPELO – The Tupelo Tigers, behind the hitting and pitching of Luke Leland, stayed alive in Class B regional baseball play Friday afternoon with an 11-1 thumping of Bennington in five innings.
HASKELL – Matison Worcester tossed a no-hit shutout and struck out six batters, while Chelsea Alexander went 2-for-3 from the plate with a run scored and a walk as the second-ranked Latta Lady Panthers upended Hulbert 3-0 in a Class 2A regional winners’-bracket game Thursday.
The East Central University football team will look to rebound from last week’s triple, overtime loss to Oklahoma Baptist Saturday, when the Tigers travel to Alva to battle Northwestern Oklahoma State. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Ranger Field.
