An Atoka police officer was injured and one man is behind bars after a head-on collision ended the high speed pursuit of a stolen vehicle out of Texas.

According to Coal County Sheriff Roy Deck, shortly after midnight Monday 52-year-old Jimmy Wayne White, driving a pickup truck reportedly stolen out of Tarrant County Texas, failed to stop for a Coalgate police officer on a speeding violation. A pursuit ensued that led Coalgate police south toward Lehigh. Deck said he, Coal County Deputy Jason Teel, and another Coalgate officer joined the pursuit into Atoka County.

As the pursuit entered Atoka city limits, White sped through one roadblock of spike sticks, which deflated two tires on the stolen truck. White was approaching a second roadblock near the intersection of U.S. 69 and S.H. 3 when he smashed head-on with the Atoka officer’s vehicle. The officer was reportedly outside of his vehicle setting up the road-block at the time of the collision and was knocked to the ground. Deck said the officer sustained injuries to his hand and was treated and released from an Atoka Hospital.

White was pinned in the stolen vehicle and was extricated by crews using the "jaws of life." White was also treated for minor injuries and released, Deck said.

White's Atoka County charges include driving under the influence, driving under suspension, attempting to elude, two counts of failure to stop at a road-block, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Deck said White's Coal County charges are pending.

"I'm sure glad this pursuit ended with no serious injuries to anyone," Deck said. He credits Coalgate and Atoka Police Departments with assistance in the arrest.

According to district court records, White's previous Oklahoma charges include assault and battery on a peace officer, driving under the influence, assault and battery/domestic abuse, public intoxication, and driving under suspension.
