Congratulations to Hayes Grade Center’s Shaun Kingery on being selected Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year. She received a check for $100 and Hayes Grade Center received $1,000.

Kudos to Francis Elementary Gifted and Talented class on making a quilt for the Oklahoma Centennial Celebration. Each quilt block displays a different state symbol or historical fact.

Byng High School and Junior High students recently conducted a “Bucks for Books book drive and donated more than 300 books for children in the Department of Human Services system.

Boy Scouts in Coalgate recently were presented honor badges and awards. Merit badges were presented to Preston Cosper, Greg Furey, Max Henry Jr., Josiah Bloomstadt.

Allie Barton, Latta High School student, was recently recognized for her essay on water conservation. Her essay began as a school assignment and was one of two runners-up in the 9th and 10th grade category. She received a $1,000 saving bond.

Valley View Regional Hospital’s CEO, Ron Webb, was recently awarded the Advocacy in Action Award by Oklahoma Hospital Association. The award is given to an individual who by their outstanding efforts has contributed the most in helping to advance the advocacy goals of the OHA during the current year.
