John Akers, 102, was recently presented a citation from state representative Wes Hilliard. He was also given the key to the city of Davis. Akers was born Jan. 17, 1904, and grew up at Dougherty.

Kelsey Gee, Allen, was recently awarded the President’s Academic Scholarship from Bethel College, North Newton, Kans., for the 2006-2007 academic year. Gee is a senior at Allen High School.

Citizen’s Bank of Ada recently donated $10,000 toward the construction of the Ada High School Multi-Purpose Facility.

Amber Scott, Ada, has recently been listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll at East Central University for completing exceptional academic work during the fall semester. Scott, who is majoring in elementary education, is the daughter of Mike Scott, Ada.

Larry Yockey, Ada Nissan, was recently the recipient of a Benefactor Award. Ada Nissan recently sponsored the Doctor’s Day Golf Classic with a generous donation of $1,500.

Recently named Teachers of the Year for Ada City Schools were Shanoon Cutler, Washington Grade Center; Tammy Cannon, Hayes Grade Center; Linda Cantrell, Willard Grade Center; Becky Rhynes, Glenwood Early Childhood Center; Linda Roberts, Ada Junior High School; and Kris Earle Ada High School. Earle was named Ada’s The System Teacher of the Year.
