Congratulations to Dr. Arlie Daniel, professor of communication at East Central University, on recently being selected for induction in the 2008 edition of the biographical directory “Who’s Who in the World.”

Kudos to Chris Ross on being appointed District Attorney for Pontotoc, Seminole and Hughes counties. Ross will finish a term held by Bill Peterson who announced his retirement, effective Jan. 1.

Valley View Regional Hospital Sleep Center was recently awarded a five-year term of accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

A $125,000 gift to the East Central University Foundation Inc. from Ada public accounting firm Horne and Company has established the Horne and Company Regents Professorship in Accounting at ECU. The gift was made by the firm’s partners, Bill Horne Sr., Bill Horne Jr., and Curtis Wilson. It will be matched by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education.

State Sen. Susan Paddack was recently named Legislator of the Year by Metropolitan Environmental Trust. She was also honored by the Citizens for hte Protection of the Arbuckle Simpson Aquifer. Paddack received the awards for her legislation to develop a sustainable approach to the long-term water use plan for Oklahoma.

Candace McMahan’s second grade and Stacy Oakley’s Market Leadership class at Latta School recently placed first in the school’s eyewear collection contest to benefit Ada Lion’s Club. The school collected a total of more than 3,000 pairs of glasses.
