A few days ago as we watched the pyrotechnics shoot through the dark sky, thoughts raced through our minds of “the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air to give proof through the night that our flag was still there.” That the men of Fort McHenry did whatever was necessary to keep the emblem of our nation in the air while the mightiest naval power in the world hurled all they had to destroy that flag, and that fort.

 Actually, on the Fourth of July we commemorate a quiet day when the Continental Congress met, and accepted a writ that declared “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,“

 For two hundred and forty years we accepted the fact that our criminal law was Bible-based, that our civil laws were Bible-based, and that our rights came from God our creator.

Now, a court has declared that one of our God-given rights is same-sex marriage!
