Give Abilene Christian credit. On the final day of the Marriott Courtyard Invitational at Marita Hynes Field, the Wildcats made fourth-ranked Oklahoma play a full seven innings.
Of course, that was about all they managed, as the Sooners finished off an unbeaten softball weekend, claiming an 8-1 victory.
OU moved to 13-2 on the season, while Abilene Christian fell to 4-9.
The Sooners all but put the game away early, scoring three first-inning runs before plating single runs in the second and third innings.
Three more runs followed in the fourth inning.
Freshman slugger Jocelyn Alo clubbed her eighth home run of the season and finished 2 for 2 with a pair of RBIs and runs scored.
Nicole Pendley finished 2 for 3 with a double, drove in three and scored a run.
Nicole Mendes finished 1 for 3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored.
Paige Lowary, the second of three Sooner pitchers, picked up the win, tossing 3 1/3 scoreless innings, striking out three and walking none, while allowing two hits.
The Sooners are back on their home field Wednesday when St. Francis (Pa.) visits.
