ARDMORE — LAVERA GIBSON

ARDMORE — Funeral services for Lavera L. Gibson, 82, are 2 p.m. Monday in Southwest Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Brad Taylor.  Burial follows at Rose Hill Cemetery.

The family is receiving friends Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gibson was born Jan. 17, 1931, at Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Vernon Keg and Gladys (Smith) Canada. She died Thursday, Oct. 24, 2013, at an Ada hospital.

She lived most of her life in Ardmore and southern Oklahoma.  Growing up she attended Springer High School, where she played basketball.  

She and Ralph  Dale  Gibson were married Jan. 7, 1985.  He died Sept. 21, 2013.

Her parents, a son Ricky Don Mackey, two brothers, Jack and Vernon Gene Canada, a sister, Lila Mae Canada and two grandchildren also pre-deceased her.

A retired cartographer for Carter County, Mrs. Gibson was a member of Southwest Baptist Church, the grief counseling group and the Red Hats.  

Survivors include two sons, Calvin Ray Mackey, and wife, Kathy of Allen, and Alva Rue Mackey and wife, Karla, of Ada; a daughter, Vera Ann Mackey, DeVille, La.; also stepdaughters, Karen Sue Inselman and husband, Terry, Ardmore, Jeannie Dale Rapier and husband, David, Ringling; and stepsons, Larry Dean Gibson and wife, Patty, Ardmore, and Mark Allan Gibson, Virginia Beach, Va.; grandchildren, Shandy Maloy, Kenneth Ray Mackey, Latisha Ann Sawyer, Stormy Odessa Penney, John Casey Penney, Ronnie Wayne Mackey, Clint Walker Mackey, and Micah LaRue Mackey; 12  great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.

Serving as bearers are Kenneth Ray Mackey, John Casey Penny, Ronnie Wayne Mackey, Clint Walker Mackey, Micah LaRue Mackey and Buckey Canada.
