Andrew Gibson Gonyer

Sasakwa —

Funeral services for Andrew Gibson Gonyer,  97, Sasakwa, are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Stout-Phillips Funeral Home, with Pastor Wesley Martin and the the Rev. Jimmy Freeman officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Gonyer was born March 15, 1917, at Carbon to Andy and Marie (Nolen) Gonyer. He died peacefully Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, at home west of Sasakwa with family at his bedside. He joins his wife of  72 years, Josie, whom he cared for several years before her death Oct. 23, 2008.

“A.G.” and Josie (Wyatt) were married Dec. 2, 1936, at McAlester. They lived in Seminole County most of their lives and together raised their three daughters at Sasakwa on the banks of South Canadian River.

As a child, he attended rural schools in Seminole County during the oil boom days. He worked in the oil patch and retired from Cities Service Oil Co. after 36-plus years as a pumper.

He was a WWII veteran and received an honorable discharge after serving his country. His time in the Army was spent at Camp Livingston in Louisiana, where he was a baker and made bread to feed POWs kept there.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Ruth (1932); an infant daughter, Maudie Marie (1947); granddaughter, Linda (Biggs) Vantassel (2001); grandson, Kent Ward (2007); great-grandson, Henry Griffith (2005); and son-in-law Tommy Dale Harris (2002).

He is survived by his three daughters, Wanda and Bob Biggs of Sasakwa,  Judy Harris of Sasakwa and Anita Gonyer of Seminole; grandchildren are Terri and Andy Hoffman of Oklahoma City, Paula and Bobby Lambert of McLoud, Sharon and Robert Griffith of Holdenville, Karen and Fred Herrin of Byng, Dale Harris, and Michelle Mullins of Byng, Suzy Winters and John Humphries of Seminole, Chad and Courtney Ward of Allen; 24 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; and sixth-generation granddaughter.

Bearers will be great-grandsons Justin Brock, Jess Vantassel, Joshua Vantassel, Zachary Griffith, Tyler Herrin, D. J. Harris, Elijah Winters, Connor Ward and Cole Ward.

Honorary bearers will be Buddy Womack, Tony Womack, R.H., Akins, Charlie Akins, Joe Tipton, Jesse Blackburn, Ozell Jones and Anderine Roberts.
