Ada — Jimmy Pettit

ASHER — Services for Jimmy Pettit, 89, also known as Harold Prentiss Pettit, will be 1 p.m. today at Avoca Church of Christ north of Asher. Burial will follow at Avoca Cemetery. Steven Fowler officiating.

He died Jan. 11, 2014.

Mr. Pettit was born June 30, 1924 to James Fletcher Pettit and Ethel Fairy Jeffrey Pettit.

He served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 through 1945. He trained as a fighter pilot in World War II, and also trained selected West Point cadets at Andrews Air Force Bace in Washington, D.C.

He is survived by daughters Jesse Judy Kaye Pettit, Oklahoma City, Paula June Pettit Skender, Asher, Rhonda Diana Pettit Fowler and husband Charles, Ada, and Leslie Maria Pettit May and husband John of Oklahoma City; brother Alva Pettit, Bethel, Okla.; sister Joanna Pettit Reeves, Gainesville, Texas; grandchildren Steven and Lana Fowler, Alpina, Ark., John Paul and Randi Skender, Asher, Daniel Fletcher and Jenne Skender, Salina, Okla., Elizabeth Marie Skender, Lexington, Anna Lisa Skender, Ada, Jared Vogt, Ada and Jacob Vogt, Ada; great-grandchildren Ariel Fowler, Emily Welch, Amelia Vogt, Austin Middlebrook, Alexandrea Middlebrook, Gracie Moore, Hudson Skender, Mitchell Skender, Levi Skender and Rhett Skender.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Aleta Modean Sanders Pettit, his parents, brother Kennith Pettit, and grandson Jonathan Nicholas Pettit Vogt.

ADA — Services for Michael Andrew Engelhaupt III, of Calera, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Smith-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel with Kellos Walker officiating. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Smith Phillips Funeral Home.

He was born Aug. 26, 1974 to Vicky Thurstun in Ft. Worth, Texas. Mr. Engelhaupt died Jan. 10, 2014.

He graduated high school in Denison, Texas and was employed at Sam’s Club in Sherman, Texas.

Survivors include his parents, Vicky and Gary Thurston of the home, cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunt, and many relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bonnie and Loren Pete Brown and an uncle.

Coleta Gray

ADA —  A memorial service for Coleta (Blevins) Gray, 76, Ada will be scheduled at a future date. Ms. Gray died Jan. 7, 2014.

She was born Dec. 18, 1937 to Hugh and Ettie Tisdell Blevins.

Survivors include her children, Michael Triplett, Ada; Robin Russell and husband Rick, Stratford; Lisa Hudson, Ada; Bryan Triplett, Ada; and Christy Cook and husband Ronnie, Ada; grandchildren Amanda Taylor and husband Daniel of Calvin; Susan Hudson of Ada; Ericka Russell of Stratford; Chelsea Triplett, Denton, Texas; Chad Triplett, Waco, Texas; Dakota Russell, Stratford; Callie Rose Cook, Ada; and Hunter Cook, Ada; great-grandchildren Denton, Audrey and Olivia Taylor of Calvin and Tristen Grantham of Stratford; sisters Pat Penisten and family of Lawton and Madeline Thomas and family of Ada.

Ms. Gray was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and her Mamaw.

Effie Bowman

ADA — Graveside services for Effie Evelina Bowman, 94, Ada, are 10:30 a.m. Friday at Wetumka Cemetery, Rev. Bill Black will officiate.  The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Bowman died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014 at an Ada nursing home. She was born June 22, 1919 in Rosetta, Ark. to James Franklin and Stella O. Bailey Moore.

She married Omer Cecil Bowman on Jan. 30, 1939. He preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 2000 at Ada. They were married for 62 years. Mrs. Bowman was a homemaker and a member of First Christian Church in Seminole and Ada.

Survivors include her children, Zane Bowman and wife Clarice of Ada, Wes Bowman and wife Mary of Lone Grove, Don Bowman and wife Pat of Guthrie, Robert Bowman and wife Barbara, Milton, Fla., and Debbie Choate and husband Mike of Ada; three sisters, Darlene Young of Okanogon, Wash., Pat Dorhorst of Hay Springs, Neb., and Frankie Johnson of Crowley, La.; three half-brothers, Sammy Moore, David Moore and Paul Moore of Wynne, Ark.; eight grandchildren, Garth, Lance, Kelleya, Charlie, David, JonMark, Lauren and Lindsay; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother and eight sisters.

Bearers will be her grandsons.

Shirley Myers

ADA — Services for Shirley Maxine Myers, 78, Ada, are 2 p.m. Thursday at Criswell Funeral Home Chapel. Mickey Shaw will officiate. Burial will follow at Rosedale Cemetery.

Mrs. Myers died Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at a Midwest City hospital. She was born June 15, 1935 at Oklahoma City to Elmer and Modena Hammond Young. She attended school in Porterville, Calif.

She married Charles Vernon Myers on June 14, 1952 in Ada. Mrs. Myers worked at Wal-Mart for 26 years. She was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Charles Vernon Myers, of Seminole; a daughter, Sharon Shaw and husband Mickey of Seminole; her son, Ricky Myers of Yukon; her three grandsons, Derek Shaw and wife Rachel, Brandon Shaw and wife Amy, and Ricky Myers and wife Jessica; one granddaughter, Angie Parks and husband Jade; three great-grandchildren, Jaxon Shaw and Ella and Jase Parks; two brothers, Larry and Nancy Young and Jimmy Young; two brothers-in-law, Gene and Pat Myers and Stanley and Joann Myers; a sister-in-law, Velma Woods; a niece, Norma Weger; and a nephew, Mike Meredith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers.

Bearers will be Derek Shaw, Brandon Shaw, Jade Parks, Ricky Myers, Kevin Young, Jordan Young and Ronnie Myers.
