Joanne Farus

Claremore —  Services for Joanne Kaye (Peterson) Farus, 70, were held Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Viborg, S.D. Burial followed at Evergreen Cemetery. Mrs. Farus died Dec. 30, 2014, at her home in Claremore, Okla.

She was born Nov. 20, 1943 in Viborg, S.D. to Ralph and Marjorie Peterson.

Mrs. Farus attended the University of South Dakota/Springfield where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. She taught for 48 years in various states as she folloed her husband during his banking career and received “Teacher of the Year” honors. In Pierre, S.D., she was awarded “Career Woman of the Year” by the Business and Professional women’s Association. Mrs. Farus was an active member of the PEO Sisterhood and held many offices. She was also involved in chartering the first PEOChapter in Ada and served as president. She was a member of the Verdigris United Methodist Church.

Survivors include husband Tom Farus; daughter Katherine Scales and husband Brandon; granddaughters Karissa Scales and Taylor Paige Durr; brother Dale (Bev) Peterson; and sister-in-law Karen Farus.

She was preceded in death by son Jason Thomas Farus, her parents, her in-laws, Billy and Marian Faurs, nephew James Peterson, and brother-in-law Bruce Farus.

Oklahoma arrangements are underthe direction of MMS-Payne Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Claremore; funeral and burial arrangements in South Dakota were under the direction of Viborg Funeral Home.
