Ryan — William Hershel Shoffner was born May 23, 1923 in Ringgold, Texas to Fred Evans and Jewell Schram Shoffner.  He passed from this life Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the Nocona Hospital at the age of eighty-six.  He served his country in the United States Navy in World War II. He and Agness Ann Mitchell were married October 12, 1946 in Henrietta, Texas. She preceded him in death September 9, 1986. He married Ethel Osborn May 12, 1989 in Waurika. He was a machinist, welder, and tool designer.  He worked and retired from Halliburton after 37 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion, previous member of the Ryan school board, and a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Ryan.

Survived by his wife Ethel of the home, children - Inez and Larry Larson, Abby and Richard Barron, Gail and Steve Harris, Vicki and Sam Brimer and Mike and Kelly Richardson; Grandchildren-David, Mike and Holly Larson, Dawna “Chele” and Tom Reeves, Amber and Kenny Brown, Rachel and Troy Bucher, Mitchell Garis, Amy and Richard Blackwood, Josh Brimer and Chris Richardson; Great granchildren- Hannah, Jason, Evan and Taylor Larson, Gage, Teddy and Sam Brown, Alli and Aiden Bucher and Alexandra Blackwood. Brothers and sisters- Milfred “Horsefly” and Wanda Shoffner, Myra White, LTG (Ret.) Wilson “Dutch” and Beverly Shoffner, Joan and Bobby Dunham, Jean Shoffner and Judy Taff, also several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews. He is also survived by his dog Winnie. 

Preceded in death by his parents, his wife Agness, daughter - Gwyn Shoffner, grandson - Steven Levi Harris, sisters - Marguerite Bearden and Betty Fewell, and brother - John Shoffner.

Funeral Service will be Monday, April 19, 2010  at 11a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Ryan with Rev. Paul McDowell and Rev. Steve Harshaw officiating.  Burial will be in the Ryan Cemetery under the direction of Dudley Funeral Home in Ryan. Visitation will be Saturday from 1-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-6 p.m. with family receiving visitors from 4-6 p.m. Condolences may be made to the family at Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Ryan.
