Leon Morris

Stratford —

Services for Leon Morris, 87, Stratford, are at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013, at Stratford Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by the Revs. Lewis Perry and Darrel Bradley. Burial follows at McGee Cemetery, Stratford. 

Mr. Morris died May 22, 2013, at his home north of Stratford. He was born June 11, 1925, in Stratford to Walter J. and Emma Eeds Morris.

Shortly after Mr. Morris and his twin sister were born, their mother, Emma,  died and then so did his little twin sister. He grew up in the Stratford area. He joined the Navy at age 17 and served during World War II. A Navy buddy of Mr. Morris' from Alabama introduced him to his sister, Pearlie Mae Pelfrey.

They were married Feb. 25, 1946, in a furniture store in Oneonta, Ala. The following year, after the birth of their first daughter, they moved to Oklahoma. In the following years, they had six more daughters and one son. They moved to Stratford in 1954 and raised their family on Red Bird Hill farm north of Stratford. Mr. Morris made a living building houses and founded Stratford Diamond Star Homes. He also opened a hardware store. Later he went to school and recieved his realtor license. He then owned Stratford Sunshine Real Estate. He was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, Stratford Masonic Lodge and Stratford American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Pearl; one grandson, Cody Smith; and one brother, Elvis Morris.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, David Leon and Connie Morris, Ada; seven daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Butch Bradley, Stratford, Nancy and Jerry Duncan, Ada, Sarah and J.E. Rooker, McLoud, Cindy Paul, Ada, Bill Paul, Stratford, Mary and Phil Shivers, Ada, Becky and Wes McClaflin, Blanchard, Leah and Bryan Lyon, Ada; a sister, Reba Magar, Stratford; 25 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren.

Bearers will be grandchildren.
