Ennis, TX — Services for Lois Holmes Duncan, 100, Ennis, Texas, formerly of Ada,  Okla., are 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Criswell Funeral Chapel in Ada. Dr. Roberto Escamilla is officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jana Hogg. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery, Ada.

Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Criswell Funeral Home.

Mrs. Duncan died Nov. 3, 2013, at Ennis, Texas.

Lois Watson Holmes Duncan was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Ada to Albert Thomas Watson and Ethel Riddle Watson. 

Mrs. Duncan attended school in Ada and earned her bachelor and master degrees at East Central University. She taught elementary and vocal music 23 years. The last 16 years were at Washington Elementary School in Ada.  She worked as a childhood guidance counselor for the state of Oklahoma the last 10 years of her working career.

Lois Watson married Joe Wesley Holmes in 1936. He died in 1990.  In 1999, Lois married Elmer Duncan who died in 2007.

Also preceding her in death were her sister Doris McCoy and her brothers Glenn Watson, Lewis Watson, Al Watson and Kenneth Watson. Her son, Ronald Holmes, died in 2012.

Mrs. Duncan is survived by a daughter-in-law, Sarah Holmes of Pontotoc, Okla.; daughter, Carole Jo Blassingame and husband John of Ennis, Texas; her stepchildren, Larry Duncan and wife Karen of Littleton, Colo., and Ann Van Dalsem and husband Carl of Tool, Texas; grandsons Ed Holmes and wife Shannon of Chatham, N.J., Ken Holmes and wife Zhanna of Seguin, Texas, John Blassingame Jr and wife Leah of North Richland Hills, Texas, and David Blassingame of Fort Worth, Texas; granddaughters Suezann Davies and husband Simon of London, England, Evonne Hess and husband Gregg of Muenster, Texas, Toni Barr and husband Jim of Ennis, Texas, Kelly Lowther and husband Peter of Fort Collins, Colo., Laura Knudson and husband Brian of Las Vegas, Nev.; nineteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.  

Nephews surviving are Greg Watson and his wife Waithera of Tucker, Ga., Rick Watson of Gainesville, Fla., William Watson of Eugene, Ore., Glenn Watson II and wife Mille of Rogers, Ark., Tom Watson, of Blue Ridge, Ga.

Nieces surviving are Carol Kunert and husband Gregg of La Canada, Calif., Mary Gay Watson of West Plains, Mo., Amelia Watson of Blue Ridge, Ga., Nancy Watson of Chicago, Ill.

Mrs. Duncan was a member of Douglas Bible Club, Fortnightly Study Club, American Association of University Women, Retired Teachers Association, and East Central Wives Club. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Ada for more than 60 years. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to First United Methodist Church, Ada Okla., East Central University Alumni Scholarship Fund in honor of her parents, Albert and Ethel Watson, or the charity of the giver's choice.

Bearers are Ed Holmes, William Watson, Ken Holmes, David Blassingame, John Blassingame Jr. and Jim Barr.
