ADA — Services for Arthur Lee Swanson Jr., 93, of Ada are 2 p.m. Thursday at Morris Memorial Baptist Church, the Revs. Mike Calhoun and Gary Jamar officiating. Burial follows at Rosedale Cemetery. The Chickasaw Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the cemetery.

Mr. Swanson died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at the Ardmore Veterans Center. He was born Jan. 27, 1920, at Verden, Okla., to Arthur Lee and Grace Jordan Swanson. He graduated from Latta High School in 1939.

He married Simmie Pauline Cooper April 25, 1940. She died Dec. 16, 2009.

Mr. Swanson was the owner and operator of Swanson Heat and Air in Ada until his retirement. After his retirement, he was a rancher. He was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church for 65 years, where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Swanson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on a minesweeper ship in the South Pacific.

Survivors include a daughter, Carolyn James of Ada; three grandchildren, Danny James and his wife, Cathy, of Ada, Terry James and his wife,  Reecellee, of Colorado, and Tammy Abney and her husband, Teddy, of Ada; nine great-grandchildren, Dillon, Caitlyn, Madison, Maebree, Scout, Tucker, Zach, Sierra and Rio; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Erma Haynes of Ada; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two brothers, Troy Swanson and Kenneth Swanson; and two sisters, Nona Boyd and Zelda Swanson.

Bearers will be Danny James, Terry James, Dillon James, Teddy Abney, Grover Swanson, T. J. Swanson, Jerry Ward, and Mike Ward. Honorary bearers will be Scout James and Tucker Abney.

The family says those who wish may make memorials to their charity of choice.
