Over the past year and a half, Patty Wagon Shuttle has been in the transportation business in Ada.
“It is a service provided to the community of Ada and also outside of Ada,” said Patty Black, owner.
The service operates seven days a week, including holidays. Those in need of a ride should call ahead, but Black said she understands when there are emergencies.
The charge for the use of the taxi/shuttle service is $10 for a trip within Ada. However, each city has its own rate. “Say, if you’re going up to Oklahoma City, it’s $105, and that’s round trip,” said Black.
Black said the farthest the shuttle system will go is Dallas.
She said she worked at the Valley View Regional Hospital for 12 years. She found that people would be waiting hours at a time for a ride from the taxi service at the time. In January 2012, she began Patty Wagon Shuttle with only a Ford Escape.
In the first year of service, she was still working full-time at the hospital. If someone called for taxi service while she was at the hospital, she would answer the call.
While working at the hospital, she “was on a salary position and I also had benefits.” She said she was nervous about leaving her job, but in January 2013, she gave her notice and started working full-time on Patty Wagon.
The service has upgraded from a single Ford Escape to an Equinox and two more vehicles.
Black transports anyone who needs her services.
For those unfamiliar with Ada, a CD is played in the cars to relay basic information about the city.
“For me to take somebody to the doctor, go up there with them, sometimes it takes three or four hours,” Black said. “I will wait with them and bring them back home. It’s not like you drop them off and leave.”
To make for a pleasurable trip, Black stocks the vehicles with complimentary snacks, cold drinks, magazines and newspapers.
She has also worked out a system in which her service is essentially a designated driver. She said the arrangements are made so that the customer and the customer’s car are picked up separately and taken home.
