An Ada woman was arrested for allegedly assaulting police officers and damaging a police car during a DUI arrest Tuesday.
The incident occurred in the 700 block of Arlington. Police arrested 42-year-old Nicki Annette Griffin. According to a report filed by Ada Police Officer Michael O’Connor, Griffin was seen driving a vehicle east in the westbound lane.
O’Connor stopped Griffin and alleges in his report he could “smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from inside the vehicle. I asked Griffin where she came from and she said (a local restaurant). I asked Griffin if she had been drinking and she said she had one drink.”
Griffin was given a sobriety test which O’Connor said she failed. She was arrested and placed in a patrol car.
“While Griffin was in the back seat of the patrol car, she was able to slip the handcuff off of her left wrist,” O’Connor said. “I had Griffin get out of the patrol car and put the handcuffs back on her. Griffin became combative and would not get back in the police car. As I got her back in the police car, she began kicking me.”
Ada Police Officer Brad Rhoads assisted O’Connor in getting Griffin into the car.
“Griffin then kicked the right rear window out of the police car,” O’Connor said.
“As Rhoads opened the door of the police car to try to control Griffin, she tried to get out of the car. Rhoads administered pepper spray to the face of Griffin. As Griffin was placed back in the car, she kicked Rhoads.”
Griffin was arrested on suspicion of assault on a police officer (two counts), destruction of city property, driving the wrong direction and driving under the influence.
