Storms in the area Tuesday knocked out power to more than 1,000 homes.
Monica Cowart, spokesperson for People’s Electric Cooperative, said a Latta substation was knocked out, cutting power to more than 1,000 PEC customers. Power was quickly restored to about 500 customers, but 500 more were without power for about three-and-a-half hours, Cowart said.
Cowart said workers did not know if the outage was caused by a lightning strike or high winds. Weather forecasters are predicting thunderstorms and heavy rain for the area today — mostly in the afternoon and evening hours.
The storms are not expected to be severe but Pontotoc and surrounding counties are under a flash flood watch until Friday.
