ADA — A vehicle which caught fire Tuesday in a local business was destroyed but firefighters were able to save the business.

The fire occurred at Doug’s Automotive in the 100 block of N. Townsend. Firefighters were called to the scene at 9:48 a.m. to investigate a possible structure fire.

Assistant Fire Chief Rick Ross said when firefighters arrived, there was thick black smoke billowing from the business. Firefighters made entry and discovered a 1997 Ford F150 on fire in the garage area.

Firefighters used water and foam to douse the flames. Ross said there was some minor damage to the ceiling of the garage but most of it was smoke related.

“There didn’t appear to be any damage to the roof covering,” Ross said. “The fire rose up and hit the ceiling, which in that particular type of building, the ceiling is the floor of the roof.”

Ross said the pickup was a total loss.

“The engine compartment and cab area were totally gone,” Ross said.
