The Ada News

Two people were arrested after pursuit through Ada Thursday afternoon.

Arrested were 34-year-old Lucas Michael Smith and 26-year-old Erika Leigh Fleet, both of Ada.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Keith Teel said he was taking radar readings near the intersection of Cradduck and Ahloso Road when he witnessed Smith make an improper turn. Teel attempted to stop Smith who was driving a motorcycle. Fleet was riding on the back.

He said Smith did not stop and turned right on Pine Street off Cradduck. Teel alerted 911 central dispatch of the pursuit. Ada police, Pontotoc County sheriff’s deputies, Chickasaw Lighthorse police and Allen police responded. Teel said Smith made another right onto Wintersmith Drive which curved north along the east side of Wintersmith Park.

Teel said Smith was driving into the opposite lanes as he fled north.

“When he came to the intersection of Country Club and 18th, he ran right through the stop sign,” Teel said.

According to Teel, Smith continued north on Country Club when, as he rounded a curve to the east, was confronted by other law enforcement vehicles at the intersection of Country Club and Crownpoint.

With law enforcement vehicles blocking the road, Smith drove into a residential yard and wrecked the motorcycle.

Teel said Smith attempted to run after the wreck, but was quickly captured by officers.

Smith was arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude, driving left of center, driving under suspension, driving under the influence of intoxicants, failure to pay taxes due to the state, failure to signal turn, no insurance and reckless driving. Fleet was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication.
