ADA — A Sulphur man who allegedly embezzled money from an Ada business last month was officially charged this week.

According to a report provided by the Ada Police Department, Jarrin Birch, 21, Sulphur, was arrested on the suspicion of embezzlement from O’Reilly Auto Parts May 31, after he confessed to taking $1017.74 from the store.

The report indicated that O’Reilly Regional Loss Prevention Auditor Don Strayer noticed through regular audits that there were “irregularities” in store stock. Strayer said through further investigation, several more irregularities were discovered regarding returned items and cash refunds. He told police that Birch admitted to generating fraudulent cash refunds.

Birch allegedly admitted to Ada Police Department officials that he made false refunds because he was in a financial bind and said he had planned to repay the amount he had stolen.

Birch is scheduled to appear before a judge June 12.
