A routine traffic stop has landed an Ada man in the Pontotoc County Jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 2,000 feet of a public school.

Jeffrey Scott Hazard, 33, was stopped by Ptl. Josh Dean at 10:42 p.m. last week when he was observed traveling westbound on Cradduck Road with no tag light.  After a records check showed Hazard had a valid drivers license, insurance and no confirmed warrants, Dean asked Hazard if he had anything illegal in his car and was told that he didn’t.  Dean next asked Hazard for consent to search his vehicle and, after giving consent, Hazard exited the vehicle.

Dean than asked Hazard if he had anything illegal n his possession and was told “Yes, it’s meth.”
