ADA — Registered voters in Pontotoc County who want to vote by mail absentee ballot in next Tuesday’s Dec. 12 Special County election have missed the application deadline, according to the Pontotoc County Election Board. They aren’t out of luck however.

Voters who want to cast absentee ballots still can do so at the County Election Board office Friday, Dec. 8 or Monday, Dec. 11. A two-member bipartisan Absentee Voting Board will be on duty to assist in-person voters from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m.

In-person absentee voters fill out an application form when they get to the polling place located on the 2nd floor of the Pontotoc County Courthouse, Room 203. Voters are not required to state a reason for voting absentee but are required to swear that they have not voted a regular mail absentee ballot and that they will not vote at their polling place on election day.

According to the Election Board , the Absentee Voting Board verifies a voter’s registration information, then issues the voters ballots. The voter marks the ballots in a voting booth and then puts them in the voting device. It is very much like voting a regular precinct polling place.

Contact the County Election Board, located in Room 202 of the Pontotoc County Courthouse. The telephone number is (580) 332-4534.
