ADA — A popular local restaurant received major damage Wednesday in a late night blaze of unknown origin.

Prairie Kitchen, located in the 100 block NE Richardson Loop, suffered severe fire damage to the interior of the restaurant and damage to the exterior of the southwest corner of the building. Several panels of aluminum siding appeared to have melted away from that area of the structure.

Fire reports said a call came in to Central Dispatch Wednesday night at 11:21 p.m. Upon arrival of the Ada Fire Department, flames were reportedly shooting up through the roof of the structure and penetrating the rear walls of the south end. Fire crews extinguished the blaze in just over two hours, reports said.

Initial reports indicate the fire appeared to have started in the kitchen area, but the exact cause is undetermined at this time.

According to a spokesman for the Ada Fire Department, Fire Marshall Mitch Turpin will investigate the fire later today.
