ADA — Pontotoc County 4-H Shooting Club participated May 6 in the Southeast District skeet and trap championships in Ada. There were a total of 110 entries at this competition. Pontotoc group won 19 of the 25 total skeet awards.  

In the junior 10-11 age group Caleb Stone, Vanoss, won third place with a 27 out of 50 score.  Kenzie Akers, Vanoss, took second place with a 31 score.  Georgie McCurdy, Vanoss, won first place in this division with a 33 score.

In the intermediate 12-14 age group Jesse Mowdy, Vanoss, took fifth place with a 35 out of 50 showing.  Boady Snider, Latta, won fourth place with a score of 38. Logan Scott, Latta, finished in second place with a 40 score, and Shanan Foster, Vanoss, took first place with a fine 44 out of 50.

In the senior 15 and up age group, Haley Foster, Vanoss, won fourth place with a 40 score. Mason Laxton, Vanoss, won third place with his 42 out of 50 score. 

Pontotoc county won all 10 of the team medals awarded at this competition.  The top intermediate team award went to Jesse Mowdy, Cason Laxton and Wesley Frederick, all of Vanoss, along with Mitchell Potts, and Chase Lancaster, both of Roff.  They combined for a 148 out 250 score.

The top senior team award was won by Shanan Foster, Haley Foster, Mason Laxton, Logan Martin from Vanoss and Logan Scott of Latta.  They scored 204 out 250 points.

Jesse Mowdy added to his two skeet medals by finishing the day with a fourth place intermediate age group award in the trap competition with a 43 out of 50 score.

Any fifth through 12th graders in Pontotoc County 4H who are interested in joining this shooting group should contact Vanoss teacher/Pontotoc shooting coach Ron Akers of Stratford.  A hunter education certificate is required before joining.
