Latta teachers and other volunteers will be raising pledges to jump into ice-cold February water to raise money for Special Olympics.
“(The Polar Plunge) is a fundraiser through the state office of Special Olympics,” Vanna Friederich, Latta special education teacher said.
She said plungers will be traveling to Seth Wadley Ford Dealership in Pauls Valley on Feb. 19 to take the plunge into a pool of water.
“From now until Feb. 19, we’ll be raising pledges,” she said. “Each plunger has to raise at least $50 to plunge. A good percentage of the money will come right back to our athletes here at Latta.”
All the money raised will be going to Oklahoma athletes.
Currently, Friederich said 13 volunteers, including some Latta teachers, are pledging to make the plunge.
“We’re looking for people to help us in two ways. They can give us donations or they can plunge,” she said. She said volunteers can register to plunge up until the day of the event.
