ADA — An off-duty Pauls Valley police officer was arrested Thursday after his wife accused him of domestic abuse, according to a press release from the Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Department.

PCSD Undersheriff Joe Glover said 32-year-old Matthew C. Kasbaum was arrested and charged with the domestic abuse act and interference with an emergency telephone call.

Glover said the woman attempted to phone 911 during the incident, but Kasbaum pulled the cord out the wall. Later, she phoned the emergency number again from a convenience store.

While sheriff’s deputies were taking a statement, they noticed reportedly “fresh bruise injuries.” Kasbaum left behind a letter, admitting he had assaulted his wife, the report said.

The woman was issued a court order of protection.

Kasbaum was released on $500 bail and will reappear at 1:30 p.m. today in Pontotoc County District Court.
