NORMAN — Authors considering self publishing or just wanting to learn more about the publishing industry have that opportunity through a new professional development workshop offered through the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Professor Emeritus Linda P. Morton is teaching the course, and three Oklahoma self publishers will make guest presentations. Morton started his own self publishing business in 2000 with the publication of “Public Relations Publications: Designing for Target Publics.” It has been adopted by 17 universities and undergone a second printing. The second edition “Strategic Publications: Designing for Target Publics,” will be released in December.

The three guest presenters have also learned by doing and will each discuss their lessons learned and answer questions during the Friday, Nov. 3, evening and all day Saturday, Nov. 4, workshop.

Dania Deschamps-Braly, Ada, operates White Bull Publishing Co. and will be one of the three guest speakers. She sells her novel, “Thirst,” directly to the public and contributes a dollar from each book sold to Habitat for Humanity and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She will explain why she decided to start her business in context with statements about the publishing industry on Saturday afternoon.
