After watching all those pictures of east coast residents slogging through the water in their home, local homeowners who haven’t already been informed are now eligible for much improved flood insurance.

Until last July, local residents were only eligible to purchase emergency flood insurance at a maximum $35,000 in coverage.

Now, thanks to the community’s adoption and enforcement of ordinances to reduce flood losses, along with acceptance by the National Flood Insurance Program, Pontotoc County homeowners are allowed to purchase as much as a quarter-of-a-million dollars in federally-backed flood insurance.
