Pontotoc County Commissioners voted to proceed with a “Giddy Up Ride” on Monday nights at the Agri-plex at a Monday morning meeting.
Brenda Gilstrap, marketing and tourism director, said the horse rides will be on Monday night from January to March and memberships will be sold.
“Memberships will be good to ride every Monday night,” she said. Gilstrap said the rides will be cancelled in the case of big events on weekends, such as bull fights.
“We will have a calendar every month that is posted for the ride nights,” she said.
The three-month memberships are a trial to see if a permanent membership arrangement will be feasible, Gilstrap said. She said the memberships will make riding fees cheaper for members and give priority to members if riding space is short. Memberships for January through March are $35, she said. Monday night rides for nonmembers will be $20 per ride.
Commissioners also approved $3,000 for marketing of the Bertha Teague Mid-America Classic.
Pontotoc County Emergency Management Director, Chad Letellier, said the county’s hazard mitigation plan has received final approval.
