ADA — Reigning Miss Ada winner Taylor Treat will be competing against 43 contestants for the title of Miss Oklahoma this week at the 2006 Miss Oklahoma Pageant held at Tulsa. Treat, a student at the University of Oklahoma, said she was looking forward to the forthcoming schedule of events.

"I'm very excited, considering I'm the first Miss Ada in 21 years," she said. "I've been working very hard and I'm just so excited to go up there and represent Ada."

She said the group began practice on dance numbers for the event Saturday morning and would continue through early this week. "We practiced Saturday, Sunday and Monday for the shows and at night we have events that we attend," she said.

The group of 44 women is broken up into three individual groups, with Treat being part of the Omega Group. The schedule for this particular ensemble consists of the talent competition Tuesday, an on-stage question Wednesday, swimsuit/evening wear Thursday, with an interview scheduled Thursday evening. The final competition will take place at 7:30 p.m., June 10 at the Mabee Center on the campus of Oral Roberts University.

Also representing Ada in a different category will be Lauren Poe at the Miss Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant in Tulsa. According to their website, the Miss Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen Scholarship Pageant is to provide an opportunity for Oklahoma's young teenage ladies to compete in a first-class teen scholarship pageant and to encourage them to continue pursuing their talents, become positive influences in their communities and develop into mature, responsible young women of the highest morals and integrity. This particular pageant is scheduled to run throughout the same week as the Miss Oklahoma pageant, with the finale occurring Friday at 7:30 p.m. on the Oral Roberts University campus.

Poe will be part of the Alpha group, with competitions in casual wear, an on-stage question and active wear scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday and talent and evening wear scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday.
