A Texas man was sentenced to serve time in federal prison for stealing money from the Chickasaw Nation.
Roy Francis Ewing III, 42, Gainesville, was sentenced to serve one year plus one day followed by two years of probation for embezzling funds from the Winstar Casino near Thackerville.
Mark F. Green, United States attorney for the eastern district of Oklahoma, said Ewing was an employee at Winstar when the embezzlement occurred. He was indicted in March 2010 after an investigation by Chickasaw Nation Lighthorse police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He pleaded guilty in April 2010.
“The Indictment alleged that from on or about July 16, 2009, and continuing until on or about Dec. 10, 2009, the defendant, an employee of the Winstar World Casino, an Indian gaming establishment operated by the Chickasaw Nation, embezzled approximately $47,000."
Ewing must also repay the $47,000 he took.
