ADA — Billy Gene Bishop, 35, Ada, was arraigned Friday in Pontotoc County Court on charges of lewd molestation and rape of a 14-year-old girl. The girl “suffers from being diagnosed with mild mental retardation” according to a sheriff’s report.

The teen was taken to Valley View Regional Hospital emergency room after her mother learned her daughter had sexual intercourse with an adult male within the previous 24 hours.

Following an initial examination of the girl, an emergency room nurse at the hospital reported the incident to Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen told Pontotoc County Sheriff’s Deputy Mandy Anderson that she had sex with her boyfriend Billy Bishop, but did not want to get him in trouble. The incident allegedly occurred in Bishop’s bedroom at the home of his sister-in-law.

Deputy Eric Holcomb discovered Bishop hiding in the attic of his sister-in-law’s home and placed him under arrest for an outstanding bench warrant. He was transported to Pontotoc County jail.

Bishop admitted to Undersheriff Joe Glover and Chief Deputy Justin Priest that he had kissed the girl and caused hickeys on her neck. However, he denied having sex with her.

Several items were collected by sheriff’s deputies from Bishop’s house and retained as evidence.

He is currently in Pontotoc County Jail and bail set at $30,000.
