Chickasaw Nation Legislators met briefly Friday morning to pass resolutions which included land acquisitions and amendments to the Chickasaw Nation Code.
General Resolutions for acquisition of land in Pontotoc County and a resolution to obtain 278.15 acres, passed unanimously. However, Beth Alexander, Panola District, Seat 1, said she would prefer receiving land information sooner than the day of voting.
"I just wish that when this resolution had come across in the first place, they had told us more information," she said. "Maybe they didn't know it all at that time, but as soon as they did, they should have called us and let us know sooner than waiting until the day of when we vote on it."
Alexander abstained while the motion for 4.44 acres of land passed with a 9-1 vote.
Tishomingo District representative Steve Woods made a motion to update amendments to Title 3, Chapter 2 of the Chickasaw Nation Code (Beverage Control Act), which would comply with Oklahoma state alcoholic beverage law. Woods also presented amendments to the Chickasaw Nation Code, which would amend fees in connection with the Chickasaw Nation District Court. Both resolutions passed unanimously.
The Chickasaw Nation Legislative body meets every third Friday of each month.
