The Latta High School academic bowl team placed third at the State OSSAA Academic Bowl Tournament held Saturday in El Reno.

For the past four out of five years, Latta academic teams have earned state competition berths.

Junior Wil Crawford led the Latta team’s scoring attack with 280 tournament points. Senior Nathaniel Rodgers contributed 170 points, sophomore Trace Lawson added 70 points and junior Lauren Huntley scored 40.

During the tournament, Latta recorded wins over Oklahoma Bible Academy, Dale and Oklahoma Christian School but was defeated by the eventual state champion, Chelsea.

During these challenging games, students field questions from all content areas as well as current events, pop culture and sports.

A broad general knowledge is necessary, but quick responses are also required to win these "Jeopardy"-style competitions.

Team coach Susie Edens said, “This year’s team has worked hard all year long to be able to earn this spot at state.  We appreciate all the support from our families and friends who have followed our team throughout the year. We’re looking forward to another great year next year as well!”
